Explore the transition through centuries from today back to the industrial age when cycling.
Starting from the tourist information centre in Grong, head south down the walkway along the high street. At Rønningen nursery school you turn off the walkway and follow the path by the River Sanddøla. Cross the bridge over the River Lissåa before cycling on through the “jungle” until you reach the Tømmeråsfossen waterfall and its pools. Are there salmon fishers around? Or if the weather is lovely, you may be tempted by a quick dip? The route continues up the road towards the Nausthaugen and Øvre Nausthaugen housing estates and crosses the Namos Railway before passing the remains of Tømmerås Mill. Cross the suspension bridge over the River Sanddøla, and continue towards the hamlet of Homo. Where the road turns sharply right, turn left down a small private road (see map), and cycle southwards towards Bjørgan. Steep climb up towards the Bjørgan plateau, including a short stretch along Route 74, before turning off up Lurudalsvegen. Continue to the end this forest track. You can then continue along the path, or try cycling. At the stream, you will be able to see the walls of huts that once housed the labourers who built the railway. Return by the same route. |
